    Rice rationing in 2008

The global run on food that has led to shortages and riots in Egypt, Haiti and other nations has made its way to U.S. shores.

Concerned about rising prices and limited supplies of staples such as rice and flour, customers across the country have been cleaning out the shelves at big-box retailers, including Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s Sam's Club and Costco Wholesale Corp. stores.

On Wednesday, Sam's Club said customers would no longer be allowed to purchase more than four bags of jasmine, basmati or long-grain white rice on each visit.

Sam's Club blamed the restriction on "supply and demand trends" and said it was working with suppliers "to ensure we are in stock."

The policy involves only bags weighing 20 pounds or more and does not affect smaller packages sold at the store or its sister Wal-Mart outlets.

This week, Costco said it had seen sales of flour, rice and some cooking oils leap. Some Costco stores already have held customers to just two bags of rice a day, but the chain doesn't plan to limit sales nationwide.

By midafternoon Wednesday, the Costco in Alhambra -- which had not placed limits on purchases -- said it had run out of rice.

Earlier in the day, Michael Yang, manager of Hawaiian barbecue restaurants in Pico Rivera and West Covina, had decided it was time to stock up. He bought 46 bags of medium-grain rice, 50 pounds each, at the Alhambra Costco and loaded them into his white van.

He paid $15.39 each, which he called a bargain compared with premium brands from Thailand that have recently nearly doubled in price to $40 for a 50-pound bag.

"The price of everything -- oil, sugar -- has been going up for months, and rice has been an issue for a few weeks already. Everyone else is doing the same thing I am because they use up their rice so fast," Yang said in Mandarin.

Prices for many foods, including beer, bread, coffee, pizza and rice, are rising rapidly as the nation contends with its worst bout of food inflation since 1990. The cost of groceries is climbing at an annual rate of about 5% this year.

Retail experts said there was little evidence of "panic" hoarding by the public. It appears that restaurants and smaller retailers have been buying up most of the stock on the expectation that prices will continue to rise.

Still, shoppers' actions have taken some stores by surprise.

"It is like a run on the bank. We don't think there is a shortage, it is just increased shopping by customers who think there is," said Richard Galanti, Costco's chief financial officer. For now, the retailer is allowing managers of stores with short supplies to set their own rules.

    Other retailers report adequate supplies.

"Ralphs has plenty of rice. No shortages at any of our stores," said Terry O'Neil, spokesman for Ralphs Grocery Co.

When Heidi Diep visited the Costco in Alhambra last week seeking rice for her Chinese fast-food restaurant in Silver Lake, the store was out of stock. It had plenty of rice when Diep went back Wednesday, but, thanks to shoppers like Diep and Yang, ran out again.

"I picked up as much as I could," Diep said as she hauled a dozen 50-pound bags of Super Lucky Elephant rice and 10 bags of 25-pound long grain into her van and her sister's sedan.

The businesswoman said she was stockpiling the grain to avoid future price increases and a repeat of the week when it couldn't be found.

Internationally, shortages of basic commodities -- including rice, wheat and some oils -- have led to protests and riots in recent months, prompting concern about food security in many poor countries.

This is what we live for in America...

    L. Vandross' mother passed

    MARY IDA VANDROSS

MARY IDA VANDROSS was born in Cheraw, South Carolina, as the second child of three.  She attended high school in Cheraw but spent most of her young life in Marion, South Carolina.  While in high school, she spent her summers in Brooklyn, New York with her aunt.  She worked as a mother’s helper.  She always liked nice clothes and shoes so she saved her money and bought her own school clothes.

At the age of 17, she married her best friend and childhood sweetheart, Luther Vandross.  In 1946 Mary Ida and Luther moved to New York City.  Two of their children were born in New York, one of whom was the famous singer Luther Ronzoni Vandross.  The elder Vandross was also a singer and two of the other children were musically inclined.

Mrs. Vandross was always a woman who had great faith in God and did not hesitate to share her faith with others.  She attended New York Theological Seminary and in 1986 became an Evangelist.  She traveled to Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island sharing God’s Word.

She has traveled extensively overseas to Paris, London, South Africa, China, Mexico, Egypt and Israel.  Two of the most significant experiences she likes to share are the fact that she was baptized in the Jordan River and she was able to visit the Upper Room where Jesus and the Disciples had the Last Supper.

Since the death of her husband and all four of her children and only grandson (all died as a result of stroke or diabetes), she travels all over sharing her message of love, prevailing faith and the power to end stroke and shape your family tree of health.

Mrs. Vandross’ philosophy is to always keep a positive attitude and give God all glory and praise through the good times and the bad times.

    TRUTH ATTACK!

    NEWS FROM THE FRONT

    April 7, 2008

    OPERATION STOP THIEF

    GAINS HUGE RESPONSE?THANK YOU!

WE?RE NOT ONLY WALKING THE WALK, WE?RE MARCHING!!

Your response to Operation Stop Thief! has been nothing less than phenomenal. What an event this is going to be! When we announced OST we had hoped to cover at least 100 and wished for at least 200 post offices to be covered in this first year. Truth Attack?s Truth Trooper groups across the country have signed on and they have been joined by their neighbors. Patriots are answering the call to action the same as they did back in 1775 when Paul Revere sounded the alarm.

Truth Trooper Groups, Ron Paul Meet-ups, Restore The Republic Groups, Freedom Law School Groups, Free Enterprise Society Groups, Freedom Above Fortune Groups, Save A Patriot Groups, Constitution Party, American Independent Party, We The People and Libertarian Party Groups and just plain old Groups of patriots who have heard the call and who want to join in TA?s Operation Stop Thief! are assembling across the country. As of today over 570 groups have registered with Truth Attack and we have sent out as many materials packages. At the current rate we?ll exceed 600! We're having to borrow money for signs and shipping and we're happy about it. The kind of problem we love to have.

It?s too late to get a snail mail mat pack, the last of those having gone out Friday, but you can still register and receive the package with everything but signs by email. Checklist, Do?s and Don?t?s, Tips for Success, Flyer and a sample Press Release that you can distribute to local media through the TA web site.

Do the math and you?ll see what a gigantic impact this is going to have on the public?s awareness of the genuine, not frivolous, issues surrounding the IRS?s illegal application of the income tax to most hard-working American households. (When it comes to math there are three kinds of people, those who can do math and those who can?t.) 600 times a minimum of 1,000 to 2,000 tax return filers per PO means we will be inoculating at least 600,000 to 1,200,000 people with the Truth. The local news coverage (because they don?t know there?s a black-out on this issue) will add, literally, millions to that number. WOW!!

    REMINDER: TOM CRYER

ON GEORGE NOORY SHOW APRIL 9

TOM HOPES TO PROMPT A LOT OF AUDIENCE INTEREST

TA?s Tom Cryer is going to be a guest on the George Noory ?Coast To Coast? Radio Show Tuesday night. Tom will be on for a one hour interview beginning at 10:00 p.m. Pacific. Let?s hope a lot of people call in, because if the show generates a lot of audience interest on this issue George will bring more people on to talk about it. After all, the key to success in show business is giving your audience what they want. Yep, sure would be nice if a lot of folks called in, all right. By the way, they announce the different call in numbers right at the beginning of the show. Some 10 Million listeners is a really big audience.

Yessiree, it sure would be kind of neat if a whole bunch of people called in, now, wouldn?t it? Or did we already mention that?

Tom can also be heard on his Republic Broadcasting Network program, Lie Free Zone, from 2-4 p.m., Central, on Saturdays.

    WASHINGTON, DC, FREEDOM RALLY

    IS GOING TO BE HUMONGOUS!!

DON?T MISS OUT?BE A PART OF THIS HISTORIC MEET

Joel Lemieux, with Granny Warriors, reports that he is expecting more than 100,000 to attend the Freedom Rally on the steps of the Capitol in Washington DC on April 15. That is tremendous!

TA?s Tom Cryer is going to be there at the top end of the speakers. We have seen a draft of Tom?s speech and just as a sneak-peak, we can let you know that he is going to lay the wood to the runaway government like you have never seen before. The ?simple country lawyer? (right) is wound up and is going to turn it all loose for this historic event. You may have heard him ?talk? as he calls it, but you have to hear him ?speak? to know why he distinguishes between the two. Tom and TA President, Gary Thomason, will both be there handing out hundreds of ?What Income Tax?? signs to the crowd and Gary will videotape this historic event.

Joel has spared no effort in organizing this great rally that is bound to get the bad guys? attention. David Von Kleist with his guitar and his razor sharp wit will be emceeing the event and there will be performances by Will to Power, Paul & Poker Face, Empty Slate and Wanda Case. To help pay for all the expenses associated with the event Joel has arranged for a limited edition of 500 prints of artist Joe Alexander?s portrait of Ron and Carol Paul commemorating their 51st anniversary. The prints are available for only $51 each, so you better order yours before they?re gone. There will never be any more produced and they will no doubt become coveted collectors items, portraits of the man who woke America back up and who will lead us back to a Constitutional federal, not national, Republic.

Joel suggests that those coming to the Rally find lodging as soon as possible and recommends that we do so in the Falls Church or College Park areas. Parking is available ten minutes? walk from the Capitol at Union Station. Information about the particulars is available on the Freedom Rally web site. If you can?t participate in Operation Stop Thief, then this is your chance to help pull the wagon another way by adding your voice and face to this great event. Let the government know that we are not few?we are many?and that we mean business.

    OCFS facillity clousres

Save Vital OCFS Facilities Across New York State!

Four facilities for youth operated by the Office of Children and Family Services would be eliminated under the Governor’s Proposed Budget for state fiscal year 2007-08.  These closures will impact PEF members who currently work in these facilities as well as the communities that they serve.

Three of the facilities set to close – Gloversville, Mt. Vernon, and Brooklyn – are residential homes for juvenile delinquents transitioning back into the community.  Great Valley, the fourth facility slated for closure, is a 25 bed non-secure facility in Cattaraugus County.

Complicating the matter, the Governor wants to waive a 12 month notice requirement before shut down of such facilities.  Just last year, PEF fought for and was successful in securing the 12 month notice requirement for closures to help alleviate the impact on the workforce and the community.

Fax a letter to your State Senator and Assembly member, as well as Majority Leader Bruno and Speaker Silver, requesting that they reject the Governor’s closures.- for NY state folks...

They keep snatching up resourceful needs...  What next???

The Governor’s budget calls for the closure of four Office of Children and Family Services facilities located in Gloversville, Mt. Vernon, Brooklyn, and Great Valley, Cattaraugus County.  The closures will have an impact on the youth located in the facilities, the workforce that provides services, and the communities in which they operate.

90% of youth entering OCFS facilities in 2005 had at least one special service need and most had multiple needs. Research shows that appropriate services including education and aftercare promote better outcomes for youth. But OCFS has fewer youth service teams than it had 12 years ago. Group homes should be enhanced and a continuum of services made available to really help kids who need it.

In addition, the Governor seeks to waive the existing statute which requires 12 months notice prior to closure.  The notice is essential in helping all impacted parties cope with the effects of the reductions.

Help reject the OCFS closures and any waiver or reduction of the existing notice requirement.

    today's word

Today's Word from Joel and Victoria
What are you expecting today? Are you expecting to rise higher in life? Are you expecting good breaks? Are you expecting goodness to follow you everywhere you go? If you are expecting to get the short end of the stick, your own wrong thinking will keep you in mediocrity. Remember, God will meet you at the level of your expectations. Pay attention to what you are thinking about and make the choice to believe God for good things.

Every day, imagine there are blessings, favor, increase, and promotion in your path. They already have your name on it! It’s just a matter of time before you come across them. Start confessing everyday “Something good is going to happen to me today.” Stand strong when trouble comes, knowing that your best days are ahead.
Believe that God’s blessings will overtake you! Expect goodness and mercy to chase you down. If you’ll learn to raise your level of expectancy, God will pour out His blessings and favor on you. You’ll rise to new levels and live the life of victory He has in store.

    Poem

something for your mind, your body, and your soul,
it's the power to arouse curiousity,
    the Purpose
the goal which one acts on,
a journey of force, hot like the sun and wet like the rain,
rhythmatic movements in unison with others
prolong an act of sensation with no limits or boundaries.
    eternity is past
    Wrong is right
it's the point of greatest intensity
    pleasures of the highest sense,
    feelings of warmth and security,
willing and unwilling sensations of the mind,
    a condition
    the ultimate seduction...
